This song was written in 1998, when I lived in a damp, cold garret in West Bromwich. I was trying to write a song for my girlfriend; an upbeat one, after years of only writing about death and disappointment. I very deliberately made sure the chorus was in a major key (A), but very quickly this descended into a D flat minor tinged verse with a 5/4 rhythm mixed in with the 4/4 pop chorus. Anyway I gave Lyn the song at Christmas so it became "Lyn's Song (at Xmas)". She must have liked it because we married 4 years later and are still together 20 years later. This original version is track 2 of the ep and was recorded on a Yamaha MT120 4 Track Cassette Recorder in 1998. Track 3 is a slower acoustic version recorded live in 2006. Track 4 is a radio jingle I recorded in May 2007 for my friend DJ Paul (then working on 87.7 Utopia FM with co-host MJ), which uses the 'Make me happy' refrain.
I am releasing this song now with a new faster version recorded in 2018, as a celebration of 20 years together.

The image for the cover was a shot taken by me in Verona of Juliet's love note wall at the Casa di Giulietta.

A video of the song on Youtube is an experiment in marketing and promotion as I try to sell the idea that Ed Sheeran is collaborating with me and believes my work to be of a high enough quality for him to record it for his next album.
Maybe this will result in a lawsuit from Mr Ed's solicitors but at the very least I will have been noticed. Whatever happens, I think it is a funny video.
